The Evolution of Ski Fashion

In the sixties fashion arrived at the slopes all over the world. High-class fabrics and flattering models were chosen over the classical layers-outfit that was used before. In the early seventies reds and blues dominated skiers outfit, while later that decade yellow, orange and brown were to colours to shine in. The best memories of many “older” skiers date back to the eighties and nineties, when practically everybody wore fluorescent colours on the slopes around the world. The brighter, the better and any colour combination was permitted, as long as everybody saw you putted a bit of effort in your outfit. This was also the periode where skiers actually started to wear something practical. Snowsuits are as big as ever, but they've got to be as bright as the sun.

ELHO Freestyle Skiwear

A famous and well-known brand in the eighties and nineties ski fashion is ELHO Freestyle Skiwear. This German company ruled the 80s and early 90s with their fluro garments. Their brand ambassador were famous ballet skiers like George Fuehrmeier and Richard Schabl, who is supposed to be the the ultimate world champ. During his successful career as a freestyle skier, he invented the one handed pole flip and created many maneuvers that have revolutionized Freestyle Skiing.

Iconic Skiwear Brands

In Italy Campri and Numero Uno were considered state of the art, while in France Degree7 and Descente are the number one choice for retro lightweight freestyle skiwear. Also the Italian brand Ellesse, which was taken over by the British Pentland Group in 1987, is a brand that still exists and seems to be hotter then ever, since plenty millenials are seen wearing this and other similar brands at festivals and other occasions. Obermeyer, Fusalp and Bogner were famous brands in Austria and Rodeo and Etirel were seen a lot in Dutch winter fashion.
Nowadays it is really hard to find information about these famous brands that dominated the slopes for almost two decades. When you search for these brands on Google, you will find plenty examples of the great designs and hallucinating prints that were made these years.
